Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation
Category: Disabilities
DescriptionThe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of a subsidiary of Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Company, awards grants to projects and programs that help young people with disabilities maximize their potential and participation in society. The Foundation follows the definition of disabled outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act. It defines young people as ages newborn to 20. Projects or organizations should be national, part of a national network or a model that demonstrates how the project will be disseminated and replicated nationally. Funding priority is given to U.S.-based projects that promote inclusion of young people with disabilities to full access to educational, vocational, and recreational opportunities allowing them to participate alongside their able-bodied peers. Adopting the “starfish parable,” the Foundation seeks to improve society by making a difference in individual lives. Preference is given to areas where Company facilities are located. Concept papers may be submitted online, by mail, or by fax. Additional information is available on the Web site.
