Description

This family Foundation is dedicated to cultural freedom, diversity, and creativity supporting projects that aid exceptional contemporary artists and writers, as well as inspired Native activists in rural indigenous communities. Funding priorities include projects that that encourage freedom of inquiry, imagination, and expression. Grants are awarded in the areas of contemporary visual art, indigenous communities, and issue of cultural freedom. Visual arts grants support exceptional contemporary artists, foster serious criticism and discussion of contemporary art, and bring new and experimental works of art to a wide audience. Literature grants support the creation of exceptional poetry and prose written in the English language and seek to increase the audience for contemporary literature. Indigenous grants support Native peoples in renewing their communities through their own institutions and traditions. Native grants are awarded in the areas of education, Native culture, the revival and preservation of languages, legal rights, and environmental protection and advocacy. The Prize for Cultural Freedom is awarded to recognize people whose extraordinary and courageous work celebrates the human right to freedom of imagination, inquiry, and expression.
