Ben & Jerrys Foundation
Category: Social Change
DescriptionThe Foundation focuses its grantmaking on grassroots organizations, which facilitate progressive social change. Organizations must address the underlying conditions of societal and environmental problems. The Foundation does not fund basic or direct social service programs. Projects must lead to societal, institutional, and/or environmental change; address the root causes of the problems; lead to new ways of thinking and acting; and empower constituents. In addition, they should also facilitate leadership development, strengthen the self-empowerment efforts of those that have traditionally been disenfranchised in society; and support movement building and collective action. Applicants are asked to mail a letter of inquiry. Letters of inquiry are not accepted if faxed or e-mailed. There are no deadlines. To conserve resources, the Foundation asks that applicants consider using recycled paper and copy applications on both sides.
