Description

The grant-making organization is the philanthropic vehicle for singer Jimmy Buffet. Its objective is to improve the quality of life for people and empower individuals to make positive changes in their communities. The Foundation makes competitive grants to progressive, community-based, organizations that address the root causes of social and environmental problems. The Foundation makes grants in three areas: children and families, the environment, and disenfranchised groups. Children and family grants are awarded to programs concerned with the health, education, and protection of children and their families. Projects that foster self-esteem and self-sufficiency and that teach nonviolence and creative problem-solving are most likely to be considered. Environmental grants will be awarded to programs that promote environmental awareness and teach people methods of conservation, protection, and the responsible use of natural resources. Efforts to protect individual species or animals are usually not funded. Grants to disenfranchised groups are earmarked for those marginalized in our society because of their low levels of skill, education, or income; people with AIDS; those with disabilities; or the homeless. Letters of inquiry are requested and can be submitted at any time.
