John W. Gardner Leadership Award

DescriptionEstablished in 1985, the Award honors outstanding Americans who exemplify the leadership and ideals of John W. Gardner, American statesman and founding chair of the Independent Sector. Independent Sector presents the award annually to an individual whose leadership in or with the nonprofit community has been transformative and who has mobilized and unified people, institutions, or causes that improve people’s lives. The award consists of a cash prize of $10,000 and a replica of an original relief bust of John Gardner by the late sculptor, Frederick Hart. Nomination materials can be found on the Web site.
