American Academy Of Dermatology

Description

Seeking to stem the rise in skin cancer cases, the Academy is offering grants for the purchase of permanent shade structures. These structures should be designed to provide shade and ultraviolet ray protection for outdoor areas. The Academy will also provide a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure promoting the importance of sun safety. Organizations or educational institutions that serve children and teenagers, ages 18 and younger, are eligible to apply. To qualify, teens and children must use the shaded area at least 75 percent of the time. Any remaining monies not used for the purchase of a shade structure can only be used for the purchase of shade trees or additional smaller shade structures as recommended by the shade structure manufacturer. Additional information on the program is available on the Web site.
