The Lynde And Harry Bradley Foundation
Category: Democracy & Government
DescriptionKnown for its support of conservative issues, the Foundation is currently focusing its efforts on cultivating a renewed, healthier, and more vigorous sense of citizenship among the people, both in America and worldwide. Projects likely to be supported by the Foundation include those that treat free men and women as genuinely self-governing, personally responsible citizens, not as victims or clients. And they will aim to restore the intellectual and cultural legitimacy of “citizenly common sense;” the “received wisdom of experience, everyday morality, and personal character.” Funded projects will seek to reinvigorate and re-empower traditional local institutions of families, schools, churches, and neighborhoods and encourage decentralization of power and accountability away from centralized, bureaucratic, national institutions and back to states, localities and “revitalized mediating structures,” such as voluntary associations, churches, schools, and neighborhoods. The board of directors meets four times a year. To be considered for one of the board meetings, proposals should be submitted by the following dates: December 1, March 1, June 1, and September 1. The Foundation requests letters of inquiry before sending a proposal.
