Description

The Foundation is a place-based funder serving a distinct region with a variety of grant opportunities designed to help people and communities thrive. The Foundation was created to be an "on the ground" resource for Northeast Minnesota counties and Native nations within a shared geographic footprint. Quarterly grants are awarded to nonprofits, school districts, Tribal nations, or other government entities. Maada'ookiing Grants are awarded three times a year to individuals or groups who are Tribal citizens, descendants, or those who have kinship ties or affiliation to Native American communities for Native-led projects taking place within the region. Youth in Philanthropy grants are awarded three times per year for school or community projects led by children and youth, with the support of an adult advisor within the region. The Foundation works within the following seven Northeast Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochinching, Lake, and St. Louis, and all or parts of five Native nations: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grant Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. Additional information including application instructions can be found on the Web site.
