United Nations Democracy Fund

Category

: Democracy & Government

Description

Created by UN Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan in 2005, the Fund supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. The Fund plays a distinct role in complementing the United Nation's other work - work with governments - to strengthen democratic governance around the world. The Fund supports projects that fall under one or more of six areas: youth engagement, gender equality, strengthening civil society interaction with government, rule of law and human rights, media and freedom of information, and electoral processes. Visit the Web site for additional information and an online project proposal system.
