DescriptionThe Foundation supports grassroots groups working to address the root causes of injustice, defining the approach as social change, not social work. The Foundation encourages proposals from those historically excluded from resources and power. The Foundation has four funds to which organizations may apply: Social Change Fund, Fund of the Sacred Circle, Democracy! Fund, and Environmental Justice Fund. Each fund has a different deadline. The listed deadline is for the Social Change Fund. The Social Change Fund supports organizations that operate with a long-term vision for social justice; are committed to leadership of community members affected by the injustice; and use organizing to build power and effect social change. The Fund of the Sacred Circle supports Native leadership working to ensure that indigenous cultures are honored; American Indians are treated with fairness and equity; and self-determination of Native people is secure. The Democracy! Fund is committed to a society that’s deeply democratic, grounded in social justice, and in which all members have the capacity and opportunity to be active and full participants in civic life and governance. The Environmental Justice Fund is designed to enhance community involvement and leadership, and supports efforts to change social, economic, and political systems to improve health, boost inclusion in decision-making processes, and increase enforcement of environmental laws.
