Category: Environment
DescriptionSince 2012, the Institute has been helping land trusts develop effective approaches to conserving land in a rapidly changing climate. The Institute's Land and Climate grants and technical help supports land trusts, other nonprofits, and state and federally recognized Tribes to integrate climate science into strategic land protection or land management plans. The Institute's Catalyst Program currently focuses on addressing three climate issues: habitat resilience, forest carbon storage, and flood hazard mitigation. Catalyst Planning grants provide support for the development of strategic land protection or management plans that promote habitat resilience, carbon mitigation, or adaptation to climate impacts such as flood, drought, fire, or extreme heat.
