Life Comes From It
Category: Violence/Law/Criminal Justice
DescriptionThe Ahimsa Collective is a nonprofit serving in the implementation of the Organization. The Organization is a grantmaking circle that supports grassroots movement-building work for restorative justice, transformative justice, and indigenous peacemaking. The Organization aims to support organizations and collaborations that embody these values: commitment to working towards replacing criminalization and incarceration with alternative approaches to address violence and repair harm rooted in community solutions; prioritizing peacemaking development and indigenous initiatives led by Native people; rooting the work in the community's own culture(s), language(s), place(s), faith(s), and belief system(s) so it reflects the people that engage in it and guided by the wisdom of people, families, and communities of color. Other values include: commitment to anti-oppression practices; supporting the creation of new thinking and language that's holistic, intersectional, interdependent, and liberatory; promoting and sustaining collective leadership, collaboration, and partnership; living the values of work internally and externally to build community and heal harm within and against communities; and intergenerational inclusivity. Grants are awarded to nonprofits that offer approaches to address violence and repair harm rooted in community solutions. The Organization, which invests in leaders of color committed to doing movement-building work, offers two categories of grants: individual projects and networks, convenings, and collaborations. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
