DescriptionThe Foundation was established in 2009 to honor and continue the work of social justice advocate, Barbara McDowell. The Foundation seeks to improve the economic well-being, social conditions, and civil liberties of disadvantaged persons and groups in the United States. Grants are made to organizations that undertake systemic, social justice litigation and by coordinating direct, pro bono litigation through its High Impact Project. Grantmaking is focused on the following areas: access to benefits, children’s rights, civil rights, constitutional rights, discrimination, disability rights, domestic violence, refugee and immigration rights, low-income housing, and voting rights.
