The Foundation honors journalists, writers, and public figures who pursue investigative journalism and public policy for the common good. The Foundationís annual Hillman Prizes honors investigative journalism and commentary in the public interest. Winners exemplify reportorial excellence, storytelling skill, and social justice impact. Prizes are awarded for work produced, published, broadcast, or exhibited in the previous year. Categories include books (nonfiction); newspaper reporting (print or online); magazine reporting (print or online); broadcast journalism (video or radio programs longer than 20 minutes and documentary film); Web journalism (online multimedia reporting by an individual or an institution and should have substantial visual component as well as text); and opinion journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium). Winners receive a $5,000 prize and a certificate at the Foundationís awards ceremony. Travel expenses will be provided. The contest is open to journalists and subjects worldwide although submitted work must have been published in the United States. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
