Catholic Campaign For Human Development

Category

: Social Change

Description

The Campaign, established by the Catholic bishops of the United States, is committed to supporting organizations led by low-income individuals as they work to break the cycle of poverty and improve their communities. The Campaign awards grants in three areas: Community Development grant program, Economic Development grant program, and Strategic National grant program. Community Development grants support efforts that demonstrate a commitment to the dignity of the human person. Groups funded under this program are led by people living in poverty and work to address the root causes of poverty by nurturing solidarity between the poor and non-poor. The Community Development program grants also facilitate the participation of people living in poverty in decisions that perpetuate poverty in their lives. The Economic Development grant program supports economic development initiatives that significantly include the voice of the poor and marginalized in developing new businesses that offer good jobs and/or develop assets that will be owned and enjoyed by local communities. Strategic National grants are intended for organizations working to promote justice or economic development on a significantly larger scale than the community-based organizations that typically receive support from the Campaign. These grants are intended for campaign-style initiatives of significant scale, with focused time-specific goals of regional or national importance. The Campaign is currently not accepting letters of inquiry or applications for its Strategic National grant program. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
