Description

Formerly known as the National Center for Family Literacy, the Center’s Toyota Family Teacher of the Year Award recognizes the teachers in the nation who are best at engaging families in the educational process. Winning criteria include serving parents and children using a strong intergenerational approach to helping them learn together in innovative ways and have a demonstrated record of success. In addition, winners will have implemented innovative ideas for expanding their program to benefit families and/or to engage more families. Preference is given to programs that serve communities and families with high literacy and socioeconomic needs and those who would be successful at communicating successful practices to other colleagues across the nation. The winner receives a scholarship to NCFL’s annual summit and a $20,000 grant for his/her family engagement program. One runner-up will receive a $2,500 grant for his/her program and a scholarship to the summit. School and community based teachers who are exceptional at engaging families are eligible for nomination. Programs may nominate up to two family educators using separate nomination forms. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
