Righteous Persons Foundation
Category: Social Change
DescriptionThe Foundation, created by filmmaker Steven Spielberg after directing his movie, Schindler’s List, seeks to support a flourishing and meaningful Jewish community. The Foundation has funded a broad range of innovative approaches to strengthening Jewish identity and community in the United States and to preserving the memory of the Holocaust. The Foundation awards grants in the following areas: projects that engage the next generation, that revitalize arts and culture, that digitize the Jewish past, that inspire social activism, and that promote understanding between Jews and those of other faiths and backgrounds. Funding is not provided to individuals; for individual synagogues or day schools; for conferences, seminars, and workshops; for capital or building campaigns; or scholarships and university programs. The Foundation also does not fund programs servicing individuals and communities outside the United States; fundraising events, dinners, and mass mailings; endowment funds, and support to cover an existing deficit. Letters of inquiry are reviewed twice a year. Some additional information can be found on the Web site.
