DescriptionThe Foundation recognizes that the need for literacy assistance isn’t confined to a single age group or geographic location. So the Foundation’s grant programs seek to help improve the lives of people of all ages in many different communities. The Foundation awards grants in the following programs: Adult Literacy, Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Program, Family Literacy, Summer Reading, and Youth Literacy. Adult Literacy grants support organizations that provide direct service to adults in need of literary assistance. Beyond Words grants benefits public school libraries recovering from major disasters. Family Literacy grants provide funds to family literacy service providers. Summer reading grants fund local nonprofits and libraries to help with the implementation or expansion of summer reading programs. Youth Literacy grants provide funding to schools, public libraries and nonprofits to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Each program has its own deadlines. The May 22nd deadline is for Youth Literacy grants. The Foundation awards funding to organizations in the 40 states with Dollar General stores. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
