Description

The Foundation is committed to supporting activities, which have the capacity to make a real difference to the health of the oceans and to the survival of threatened aquatic species and habitats. Currently most projects supported by the Foundation fall into one or more three major program areas: conservation of sharks and rays (with particular emphasis on whale sharks and mobulid rays), public awareness of marine conservation, and the environmental education of children and students. In addition, the Foundation currently awards a small number of grants for research, conservation action, or environmental education relating to other marine conservation priorities, specifically ocean acidification and protected coral reef areas. For the biennial Keystone grant, the application process consists of two stages: Stage 1 is a short, online form and Stage 2 is a longer, online form. Headquartered in Switzerland, the Foundation has a U.S. presence at the Oceanographic Center of Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
