: LGBTQIA+

Description

The Foundation’s State Equality Fund is funded with help from the Evelyn and Water Haas Jr. Fund, an anonymous donor, and the Ford Foundation in conjunction with the Tides Foundation. The State Equality Fund has granted more then $11 millions since 2007 to advance lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality at the state level. While working in conjunction with the Civil Marriage Collaborative, the Fund supports issues not eligible for funding from the Collaborative. No grant dollars can be used for lobbying, voter registration, electoral, or candidate work. Policy issues supported include statewide nondiscrimination statutes for all LGBT people applicable to employment, accommodations, and housing, including the addition of gender identity and expression to existing statutes. Also supported are enumerated statewide safe schools policies for LGBT and LBGT-perceived students, preferably with mandatory training and statewide reporting. Other policy issues include a statewide broad recognition for same sex couples. Letters of inquiry are required. Additional information including funding guidelines can be found on the Web site.
