Prince Bernhard Nature Fund

: Environment

Description

The Fund was established in 1994 by the late Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. The Fund’s mission is to support small, preferably local initiatives toward the conservation and wise use of nature and the natural resource base. The Fund aims to save critically endangered flora and fauna in its focal regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Organizations from other regions (Europe and North America) can qualify for support if there is a substantial element of partnership with, and strengthening of, local partner organizations. The Fund prefers to act as a catalyzer of larger initiatives and link its project support as much as possible to larger themes and organizations. Decision-making is based on the following criteria: clarity and urgency of the conservation case; the amount of funding and/or conservation action (policy, community work) catalyzed by the support; direct contribution to the utilization and development of local capacity; and the mid- and long-term sustainability of the results pursued by the project. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
