Impact Fund
Category: General
DescriptionThe Fund supports public interest litigation and awards grants to public interest lawyers in the areas of civil and human rights, poverty law, and environmental justice. Under human and civil rights, the Fund does not normally fund traditional civil liberties cases, but is interested in cases involving discrimination or other civil rights violations that affect the indigent. Environmental justice cases of interest seek to address the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on communities of color or low-income communities. Poverty/economic justice grants fund cases that challenge the denial of rights in governmental programs or private action that affects the indigent or near indigent such as low wage workers. Preference is given to cases on topics such as the denial of essential governmental services or benefits, health care, housing, access to justice, predatory lending or unfair debt collection practices, or wage and hour violations. The Fund does not provide funding for consumer or general employment cases, unless they primarily affect lower income populations. Eligibility criteria and additional information can be found on the Web site.
