The Richard King Mellon Foundation

The Foundation, created by the former president and chairman of Mellon Bank, focuses its grantmaking on economic development in Southwest Pennsylvania as well as promoting economic health in rural areas, leveraging the economic impact of regional health care, education, and cultural assets, and committing to the natural environment across the United States. Human services grants support broad scale system reform, nonprofit capacity building, and after-school programs. Education grants target higher education, independent and parochial schools, and early childhood education. Regional economic development grants support downtown and neighborhood development; building a research and technology-based economy; business stimulus initiatives and workforce development; and rural economic development. Conservation grants seek to preserve land and to restore and protect watersheds. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
