Description

The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the following areas: public broadcasting/media; higher education; environment; sustainable Ithaca; and Tompkins County, NY. Public broadcasting/media grants support a diverse and transparent media landscape. The Foundation funds non-commercial broadcasting, investigative journalism, and independent media that’s substantive, unbiased, and accurate. It aims to heighten public awareness of critical environmental, political, and social issues to foster a more fully informed electorate. Higher education grants fund scholarships at Ithaca College (NY) and North Carolina State University. Environmental grants support ways of raising awareness of freshwater issues. These grants are concentrated on organizations located in the eastern United States. Sustainable Ithaca grants are focused on green issues in Ithaca, NY. Tompkins County grants support various local causes within the county. The Foundation will consider small, lead gifts for innovative, new, or enhanced programs, challenge gifts to encourage the participation of other donors, “last dollars” to achieve a specific goal, and one-time, short-term gifts to sustain a program until its long-term funding is stabilized. Application instructions and form can be downloaded on the Web site.
