The Stewart R. Mott Foundation
Category: Democracy & Government
DescriptionCreated by Stewart R. Mott, the son of General Motors’ largest stockholder, the Foundation focuses its grantmaking in four areas: peace, arms control, and foreign policy; population issues and reproductive rights; government reform and public policy; and civil rights and civil liberties. Grants are usually awarded for general support of the organization. With few exceptions, the Foundation funds organizations that have a national focus in the United States. The majority of the Foundation’s giving is to renewal grants to its existing grantees. Although requests are accepted from first-time grant seekers, the number of new projects supported each year is extremely limited. Grants are not given to local or regional grassroots efforts, service providers, individuals, conferences, media/arts projects, research-oriented organizations, or exchange programs. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
