DescriptionIn cooperation with Arts Midwest, the Endowment’s annual Big Read Program is designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. The Program provides U.S. communities with grants and comprehensive resources that support their efforts to read and discuss a single book or the work of a poet. Organizations apply to The Big Read must select from the reading choices listed on the Web site. Seventy-five organizations in communities of various sizes across the country will be selected to participate in The Big Read that runs from September 2011 through June 2012. Those selected will receive a grant, access to online training resources and opportunities, educational and promotional materials to support widespread community involvement and participation, an Organizer’s Guide, inclusion on the Program’s Web site, and the prestige of participating in a highly visible national program.
