DescriptionThe Foundation is dedicated to advancing social equity and justice and believes that a vibrant democracy requires organized and informed citizens who have access to information and free expression. The Foundation supports innovative and strategic efforts that work to advance equity, accountability, social justice, and participatory democracy in the U.S. and abroad. The Foundation’s grantmaking focuses on both domestic and international programs. Domestically, the Foundation promotes a more equitable, accountable, and transparent economic recovery and financial reform. Internationally, the Foundation supports work that advances global human rights and just foreign policies. The International program is currently being revamped and more information will follow in 2011. Grants are awarded for strategic initiatives that work to directly affect policies; promote transparency and access to information; foster greater public debate on critical issues; educate key stakeholders; and engage citizens in strategic organizing and advocacy. The Foundation only accepts proposals submitted through an online application system. The online system opens at least two weeks prior to the deadline.
