The Melville Charitable Trust
Category: Homelessness & Poverty
DescriptionThe Trust’s board has prioritized homelessness as its major grantmaking focus. It intends to seek out and support approaches that aim to end homelessness and enable homeless people to take self-supporting and proactive roles in society. The Trust focuses its funding on supportive housing development as well as housing advocacy and policy development. While the Trust’s primary geographic focus are Connecticut organizations, proposals that are national in scope and impact and relevant to the Trust’s goals may also be considered. Priority is given to nonprofits that show evidence of being a leadership organization; have credibility in the community; and demonstrate ethical and prudent management and governance practices. They must also have a commitment to results and to overall assessment of the program’s impact; as well as an openness to working with other community groups and with other sectors to address the issue of homelessness. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
