The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation
Category: International
DescriptionThe Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life throughout the United Kingdom. It funds cultural life in the United Kingdom, education and learning, the natural environment, and enabling disadvantaged people to participate more fully in society. The Foundation focuses its funding on two avenues: Main Fund and Strands. The Main Fund distributes about two thirds of the Foundation’s grants. Priority is given to projects that address a significant gap in provision; develops or strengthens good practice; challenges convention or takes a risk in order to address a difficult issue; tests out new ideas or practices; takes an enterprising approach to achieving its aims; and sets out to influence policy or change behavior more widely. The Foundation also allocates funds through specific Strands of work. Currently the Foundation is interested in four areas: biodiversity, food, museum and heritage collections, and new approaches to learning. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
