The Carolyn Foundation

: Environment

Description

The Foundation, established in 1964 as a bequest of Carolyn McKnight Christian, seeks to improve the lives of children and families, communities, and the environment. It focuses its grantmaking on two issues: economically disadvantaged children and youth and environment programs. Children and youth grants are awarded to organizations located only in Minneapolis, Minn., and New Haven, Conn. Environmental grants are divided between responsive grantmaking for which the Foundation will consider unsolicited requests and Foundation-initiated grants for which it does not accept unsolicited requests. Under the Environmental area, the Foundation is focusing its awards on renewable energy programs although will consider other environmental proposals if funds allow. All proposals must address root causes and create systemic and sustainable solutions and change; address global issues with local interventions that address local needs, as well as global needs; develop and implement solutions that can be replicated in other areas; and collaborate effectively with others in the community. There are no geographic restrictions on the environmental grants. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
