Mary Byron Project

Category

: Violence/Law/Criminal Justice

Description

The Project is a national organization working to address the root causes of domestic violence and help build safer, healthier communities. It was established in 2000 in memory of a young woman whose tragic murder led to the creation of automated crime victim notification technologies. The Project developed the Celebrating Solutions Awards to showcase and applaud local innovations that demonstrate promise in breaking the cycle of violence. The Project selects programs that can serve as national models. Eligible programs must address the issue of domestic violence, be a nonprofit or part of a government agency, replicable, and if national in scope, have applications for individual communities regardless of size or ethnic population. Both the nominated program and institutions must have been operating for a minimum of three years. The nomination form can be found on the Web site along with additional information.
