World Book/american Library Association
Category: Literacy
DescriptionThe World Book-sponsored ALA Information Literacy Goal Award seeks to promote exemplary, innovative, and effective information literacy programs in public and school libraries. There are two annual awards consisting of $5,000 and a gold-framed citation of achievement that are given to a public and a school library. Selection criteria include the impact on the community that the library serves, evidence that the project has served as a model with potential to be adopted by other libraries, was well-defined, and addressed a need. Proposals are judged for clear statements of organizational goals and objectives and the link between library objectives and community impact. A clear identification of the audience for the project and the development of a program directed at that audience is a priority as is the documented need for the program. Design quality, a clear action plan and calendar, available resources, a responsible budget, and appropriate evaluation methods are also considered. Additional information including an application form can be found on the Web site.
