Animal Welfare Institute
Category: Animals & Wildlife
DescriptionThe Institute’s mission is to reduce the sum total of pain that people inflict on animals. One of the Institute’s priorities is cruel factory farms, which it seeks to reduce through its Animal Welfare Approved program. The program, an independent food label, audits and certifies family farms whose farmers raise their animals on pasture or on range, with the highest welfare standards. The grant program focuses on three areas: increased outdoor access, improved genetics, and improved slaughter facilities. Current Animal Welfare Approved farmers and those who have applied to join the program are eligible to apply. Grants will be awarded based on the project’s potential to deliver the greatest benefit to farm animals. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
