Retirement Research Foundation

Description

The Foundation, endowed in 1978 by the late John D. MacArthur, is devoted solely to serving the needs of older persons in the United States and enhancing their quality of life. In 2008, the Foundation, reflecting changes in philanthropy and gerontology, restated its mission. It is now especially committed to improving conditions for those who are vulnerable due to frailty associated with advanced age; those who are economically disadvantaged and at greatest risk of falling through the social safety net; and those who experience disparities related to race and ethnicity. High priorities for the Foundation include economic security, affordable and supportive housing, coordinating care when older persons transfer from one care setting to another, person-centered long-term care, and mental health. The Foundation has a special interest in, and commitment to, serving the Chicago metropolitan area. The Foundation’s Accessible Faith Program and the Organizational Capacity Building Program are limited to applicants from the greater Chicago area. Direct service requests will be considered only from organizations in seven states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, and Florida. Requests for support of other types of projects will be considered from anywhere in the United States. Deadlines are February 1, May 1, and August 1 each year although applications for the Accessible Faith grant program are April 17 and June 26, 2009. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
