Description

The Foundation promotes high-quality, public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States. Grants encourage and facilitate the design, development, construction, and operation of new quality skateboard parks and facilities. Public skateparks should be designed and constructed by experienced contractors. The Foundation believes that local officials should treat public skateparks the same way they treat public basketball or tennis courts, anyone may show up and use them at any time, unsupervised. Priority is given to projects that can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment to the project, particularly in the form of fund-raising by local skateboarders and community groups. The projects should include local skaters in the design process; have a creative mix of street obstacles and transition/vert terrains; don’t require skaters or their parents to sign waivers; and encourage skaters to look after their own safety and that of others without restricting access or over-regulating facility use. Projects should also be open during daylight hours, 365 days a year; should not charge an entrance fee; and be located in areas that currently have no skateboarding facility. Only applications submitted via the online form will be considered. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
