DescriptionCreated by Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s restaurants, the Foundation works to raise awareness of adoption and move children from foster care into permanent family situations through grants to adoption organizations in the United States and Canada. Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, one of the Foundation’s signature programs, awards grants to local adoption agencies to hire child-placement recruiters with the goal of matching up to 10,000 children with adoptive families by 2010. To provide information about activities and services, interested organizations are encouraged to complete an agency profile found online. Another, the Adoption-Friendly Workplace initiative, encourages employers to offer adoption benefits such as financial reimbursement and paid and unpaid leave to employees who adopt. Organizations are invited to share information about themselves in a two-page letter of inquiry that describes their organization and project or program.
