Description

Founded in 1941 by Harry Scherman, the developer of the Book-of-the-Month Club, the Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the following topics: environment, human rights and liberties, peace and security, reproductive rights and services, the arts, and social welfare. Under the arts and social welfare, preference is given to New York City organizations. The Foundation does not fund colleges, universities, or professional schools; medical, science, or engineering research; or capital campaigns, individuals, or in support of conferences, specific media, or arts productions. Letters of inquiry are required. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
