The Institute Of Museum And Library Services
Category: Arts & Culture
DescriptionThe Organization’s Museum Grants for African American History and Culture are intended to enhance institutional capacity and sustainability through a variety of tools including professional training, technical assistance, internships, and outside expertise. Successful proposals will focus on one or more of these three goals: developing or strengthening knowledge, skills, and expertise of current staff at African American museums; attracting and retaining professionals with the skills needed to strengthen African American museums; and attracting new staff to African American museum practice and providing the expertise needed to sustain them in the field. Eligible applicants are museums whose primary purpose is African American life, art, history, and/or culture. Museums can focus on the period of slavery, the era of Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement and/or other periods of the African Diaspora. Public or private nonprofits whose primary purpose is to support museums identified may also apply. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are also eligible to apply. Applicants are required to file their applications online through Grants.gov. Additional information is available on the Web site.
