Local Iniatives Support Corporation

Category: Sports

The Corporation helps resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones. It provides capital, technical expertise, training, and information, to support the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing, commercial, industrial and community facilities, businesses, and jobs. The Corporation is partnering with the NFL Youth Football Fund for the NFL Youth Football Fund Grassroots Program. The Program provides nonprofit, neighborhood-based organizations with financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields. The Program has two grant programs: general field support grants of up to $50,000 for irrigation, bleachers, lights, etc., and field surface matching grants of up to $200,000 to help finance the resurfacing of a community, middle school, or high school football field. All projects must be sponsored by nonprofits or middle or high schools. Preference is given to proposals that seek to upgrade existing facilities in poor condition or that are otherwise underutilized; demonstrate active use of the fields; attract matching funds that exceeds the minimum 1:1 match; or involve local partnerships with nonprofit community partners such as the YMCA/YWCA or parks and recreational departments. Also of interest are proposals that provide for continued maintenance and field safety. Applicant organizations must also have at least one full-time paid staff person and be in existence for at least three years. They should also be located in an NFL target market. Additional information is available on the Corporation Web site.
