Description

The Foundation is dedicated to promoting safe and environmentally sensitive boating. The Boating Safety grant program funds projects created by local volunteer organizations that educate the public about actions they can take to be safer while boating. Examples of projects include literature on the effects of boating under the influence; public safety announcements on the effects of alcohol on boaters; and signs at boat ramps telling users about free vessel safety checks. Of particular interest are projects that reflect a unique and repeatable way to reach boaters with upbeat safe boating messages. The Foundation is interested in projects that will last past the funding although the grants are only for one year. The Foundation will fund volunteer boating groups, clubs, and associations, as well as local nonprofits. Local chapters of national organizations are also eligible to apply. The Foundation will not provide grants to government agencies, national or international organizations, for-profit businesses or individuals, or private clubs that are not open to the general public. An online application form can be found on the Web site.
