Description

The Foundation’s News Challenge is an annual contest to discover ideas about the future of local news delivery. The contest’s goal is to spur innovation in the delivery of information and news using digital media. The contest seeks to foster the development and distribution of neighborhood and community-focused projects, services, and programs. Of interest are projects that improve local online news, deepen community engagement, bring Web 2.0 tools to local neighborhoods, develop publishing platforms and standards to support local conversations, and innovate how people visualize, experience, or interact with information. Projects should use or create digital, open-source technology as the code base; serve the public interest; and benefit one or more specific geographic communities. The official application opens online on Sept. 2, 2008 and closes Nov. 1, 2008. Additional information including the News Challenge Garage, which provides assistance in developing a project, is available on the Web site.
