DescriptionThe Foundation is the educational and preservation wing of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars. The Foundation seeks applications from film-related nonprofits, schools, and colleges for its Institutional Grants program. The program is designed “to foster educational activities between the public and the film industry, and to encourage an appreciation of the motion picture as an art form and a vocation.” Grants are not awarded to support activities related to the completion of a doctoral dissertation or other academic advancement nor are they awarded to cover the expenses of producing a film or films. The Foundation does not award grants to commercial institutions or organizations or to individuals pursuing activities related to their employment at profit-making organizations. Also not eligible are film festivals, television research or projects, and administrative, equipment, or overhead expenses. Additional information is available on the Web site.
