: Social Change

Description

The Foundation works “to promote a compassionate world of enduring and just peace with social, economic, and political equality for all.” A member of the Proteus family of funds, the Foundation’s Global Justice program seeks to establish human rights (as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights) as a global standard by which to assess government and corporate action domestically and abroad. The Foundation does this through two ways. It encourages the promotion of progressive activism that aims to rekindle a public dialogue about conscience, integrity, consumerism, and the responsibility of all to ensure that human rights and human dignity are honored in the global system. And the Foundation supports the evolution of truly transparent, representational multilateral systems such as those that include enforcement and compliance mechanisms around human rights standards; those that repair the damages of the neo-liberal system; and/or those that halt implementation of harmful trade regulations. The Foundation does not directly fund local, state, or regional grassroots organizations whose goal is to educate and mobilize citizens in those locations. The Foundation will directly fund national grassroots organizations, including those with chapters or grassroots strategy. Additional information including a Foundation coversheet is available on the Web site.
