Drug Policy Alliance

Category

: Democracy & Government

Description

The Alliance’s Rapid Response/Special Opportunities grants provides $200,000 in strategically timed, project-specific grants to organizations whose projects aim to achieve maximum impact in a short time. Of particular interest are programs and projects that offer public education to raise awareness about the negative consequences of local, state, and national drug policies. Grants are also awarded for public education and advocacy around pressing issues and polling leading to a larger community education and organizing strategy. The Alliance envisions a just society in which the use and regulation of drugs is grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights. The Alliance also envisions a time when people are no longer punished for what they put into their own bodies, but only for crimes committed against others. The Alliance looks forward to a time in which fears, prejudices, and punitive prohibitions are eliminated. Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis until funds are gone. Grant decisions for proposals submitted by the first day of each month will be made within four to six weeks. Grant awards range from $10,000 to $15,000 and the maximum request is $25,000. An organizational cover sheet is found on the Web site.
