Description

The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the grocery store chain. It was established in 2001 as part of a charitable giving program to give financial support to community organizations in the company’s 11-state operating area. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on three areas: primary and secondary education, feeding the hungry, and local charitable organizations. In determining which programs to support, the Foundation considers the benefit to the community, other area programs supported recently, and whether these programs are similar to those currently being considered. Organizations in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia are eligible to apply for a grant. The Foundation board meets quarterly in January, April, July, and October. A grant application package is available on the Web site.
