Description

The Foundation’s mission focuses on working with others to eliminate racism. It has a particular interest in strategies that address structural and institutional racism. The Foundation’s definition of racial justice is that of eliminating institutional racism in American society. Racial justice is also defined as promoting policies and strategies that support equitable participation in, and access to, society’s resources and opportunities by members of all races and ethnicities. Key elements of racial justice work include a clear analysis and a demonstrated capacity to make an institutional impact in the arenas where racial inequities manifest themselves. Organizations must also have the demonstrated capacity and willingness to employ multiple strategies to effect change. They must have the capacity to support an evolving analysis of racial justice that acknowledges the dynamic nature of race relations due to larger social forces. The Foundation provides general support and project-specific grants to organizations working toward racial justice in the San Francisco Bay area or to national organizations. The Foundation asks that applicants submit a two-page letter of interest. If the submission meets the Foundation’s interests, it will request a full proposal.
