Groundswell Fund
Category: International
DescriptionThe Fund was founded in 2011 as a community trust that allowed people to talk about funding social movements, while building a capital base to benefit social justice organizations in Canada over the long term. The Fund's annual grant program seeks to increase the capacity of organizations struggling for social change that challenges the dominant, oppressive infrastructures of their political, social, and economic systems. Priority is given to groups led by the communities they are organizing; transformative work seeking to confront the root causes of oppression and work toward lasting change; work that actively confronts power imbalances and seeks to build community power; work that cannot get adequate funding from other sources; and working taking place across the expanse of Turtle Island (now called Canada). At a time when capitalism is in crisis and inequality and exploitation flourish, the Fund is trying to take a practical approach to building a better future.
