Nahikian Family Foundation

: General

Description

The Foundation, administered by Wells Fargo Bank, represents the legacy of Edwin and Joan Nahikian. The couple showed a commitment to child welfare, foster care services and a shared belief that the bond between animals and humans can support mental health, improve healing, and enable independent living. Funded projects in the child welfare and short-term foster care categories enable organizations that serve the emotional, mental, and social development of children at risk and depending upon the organizational profile and expressed need, may help organizations that provide food for disadvantaged children and their families. Animal grants support organizations that develop and place service and assistance dogs and place companion animals housed in no-kill shelters. The Foundation also supports funding for projects that provide direct medical care to communities with limited or no medical facilities and have awarded funding for disaster relief efforts. The Foundation does not typically provide grants for operating expenses but has a practice of primarily supporting capital projects. There are no geographic restrictions for applicants, but the Foundation has a practice of primarily supporting organizations located in Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and South Carolina. Some additional information including application instructions can be found on the Web site.
