Description

Established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003, the annual prize recognizes outstanding individual contributions to humanities, social sciences, law, and theology. The objective of the Prize is to increase awareness of the value of academic scholarship in the previously mentioned areas. Named for the Danish-Norwegian writer and playwright Ludvig Holberg, who excelled in all the disciplines covered by the award, Holberg played an important part in bringing the Enlightenment to the Nordic countries. The annual Prize is given to a scholar who has made outstanding contributions to research in one of the fields or through interdisciplinary work.
