Florida Health Literacy Initiative

Category

: Regional

Description

The Initiative is funded by the Florida Blue Foundation and managed by the Florida Literacy Coalition. The Initiative arose because adults with low literacy levels often fail to engage in early detection and preventive health care. The Initiative provides training, resources, and funding to help Florida adult English for speakers of other languages programs and family literacy programs integrate health education into their instruction. Eligible applicants are 501C3 nonprofits and government-based agencies, such as school districts and community colleges, that provide adult English as a Second Language instruction, literacy, and family literacy instructions in Florida via classes, small groups, or one-to-one tutoring. Additional information and application instructions can be found on the Web site.
